SISS Dragon Boat Cup – NEW

The summer sport Dragon Boat program provided by Aoraki Dragons ensures all levels of participation are available to schools in the South Island, from participation/fun teams up to those wishing to attend further races such as the National competition.
The Dragon Boating is a special sport that allows for groups of students to come together and participate together. This may be a group from other sports teams for team bonding, end of season Rugby or Netball, pre-season Rowing, your leadership groups or any students interested in participating in a sport they have not tried before. Dragon Boating is suitable for all levels of sporting ability.
The program consists of on water trainings leading to the South Island Secondary Schools Cup race day on 24 March 2024 in Canterbury. The day consists of a 1km race, 2 x 500s and 3 x 200m races.
Two team size options available:
o Small team racing (10 paddlers per boat + caller)
o 11-13 students per team
o $400 inc GST per team
*this year the mixed division is offered
OR
o Standard team racing (20 paddlers per boat + caller)
o 21-25 students per team
o $800 inc GST per team
*this year the girls division is offered
Includes the following:
o Training as arranged with the sweep/coach
o Use of a boat, paddles and life jackets
o Training can be in any size boat – dependent on bookings. Note racing will be in
standard boats for both 10 and 20 man teams
o Allocation of a sweep and coach (if one not already aligned with the school)
o No limit on training. Availability/timings of trainings is determined between the school and the sweep/coach. Aoraki Dragons will facilitate the arrangements.
o Entry into the Aoraki Dragons Secondary School Regatta on 24 March 2024

This has changed due to water levels in Lake Rugar being to low for use.
The new location is:
Lake Rua – Roto Kohatu
Harewood, Christchurch
Access to Roto Kohatu is off Sawyers Arms Road.
